The NBA officially announced that Cleveland Cavaliers' Mitchell and Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron LeBron were named East and West players of the 12th week (January 2-8 local time) for their excellent performance over the past week.
LeBron averaged 35 points (54.8% shooting), 8.7 rebounds and 7.7 assists over the past week, while the Lakers finished their 12th week 4-0, beating the Hornets, Heat, Hawks and Kings. LeBron, who scored 43 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and one steals in the first game of the week, beat the Hornets for the second time this season. He joined Jordan as only two players over the age of 35 in NBA history to score 40 + points in a row.
LeBron, 38, scored his 11th double-double of the season with 25 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists when he beat the Hawks at home on January 6 local time. He then sent 37 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and one steals, and the team narrowly beat the Kings 136-134 away. So far, the Lakers have won five games in a row, while LeBron scored 25 cents in the 13th game in a row, the fourth longest record in his career.
LeBron averaged 29.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1 steals this season, scoring double in all 31 games, bringing his double scoring to a league record of 1127. LeBron won the best of the week for the 66th time, also a league record, five times since joining the Lakers for the first time since December 13, 2021.
Mitchell, who won the award for the second time in the season, won the week of the week in week 9, the week of the fifth in his career, and the 66th time in the history of the Cavaliers, becoming the first Cavaliers player of the week to win the best of the week in a single season since LeBron LeBron in 2017-18.
The Cavaliers are 3-0 in Mitchell's game over the past week, averaging 37.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 1 steals in the East, 53% shooting and 86.1% shooting free throws. 20 + in all three games.
At the start of the 12th week, Mitchell delivered one of the highest scoring performances in NBA history. Mitchell scored an all-time high of 71 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and one block in the 145-134 overtime win over the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 2. This is the highest score since Bryant scored 81 points against the Raptors on January 22, 2006. Mitchell is also the seventh player in history to score 70 +. Join Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Thompson, David Robinson, Elgin Baylor and Devon Booker. Before Mitchell, no player had delivered 70-10 assists. With 24 points in the third quarter, 18 points in the fourth quarter and 13 points in overtime, Mitchell scored 55 points after half-time, equalizing Bryant's scoring record after half-time in the past 25 seasons. He led the team to reverse 21 points behind.
